Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition Lands At Best Buy

Over the past couple of years, Samsung has released a handful of special edition flagship variants inspired by pop culture. Last year the Samsung Galaxy S6 received the Iron Man treatment, and earlier this year the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Edition was released as a collector’s item for fans of DC Comics and Batman. Today, another special edition of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was released, and this time around the limited edition model was inspired by real events, namely the 2016 Olympic Games, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition was previously teased by the manufacturer's German Facebook page, but now the smartphone is available for purchase in select regions, including the US. Samsung Electronics is one of the main sponsors of the 2016 Olympic Games, and to celebrate the upcoming event, the manufacturer has created the Olympic Games Limited Edition model which is being launched in Brazil, China, Germany, South Korea, and of course the US. In fact, the smartphone is already available for purchase Stateside through Best Buy, for the price of $849.99. Evidently the handset is unlocked, and for those who may be wondering, it comes with a unique paint job featuring yellow inserts on the front panel, a blue Olympic Games logo and inserts on the back panel, green volume buttons, and a red power key, all being contrasted by a Black Onyx finish. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition is available with 32GB of internal memory, and otherwise, it should be equipped with the same hardware components as the standard model. This includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels, a 12-megapixel main camera coupled with a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor, and a 3,600mAh battery. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and as expected it includes a custom user interface inspired by the Olympic colors.

It’s important to note that only 2,016 Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition units will be launched in each of the aforementioned countries, so you may want to hurry if you wish to reserve one. On the other hand, if you count among the 12,500 athletes set to participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Samsung will equip you with the Limited Edition model for free.
