If you have been following the technology news in general over the last week or two, then you will likely need no introduction to the phenomenon that is Pokémon GO and the fact that it has literally taken over the tech world. Likewise, you will probably not have been surprised to hear that Pokémon GO is seeing record levels of downloads and in spite of its short period of release, it is already accredited with being the most popular mobile game in the US ever.
While that is all well and good and impressive and so on. Everyone does know that there is only one true yardstick by which success can be measured – has it appeared on The Simpsons yet? Well, the short answer is yes. In spite of only being on the market for about two weeks now, Pokémon GO has now featured on The Simpsons. Well, sort of. A new promo for The Simpsons was released a few days ago and the entire premise behind the promo is Pokémon GO. In the short clip, Homer is at the Zoo with the kids and while they are trying to get his attention, Homer is far too busy 'catching 'em all' with Pokémon GO. A slight nod not just to the game but also to how addictive it seems to be. There has already been numerous reports coming through on accidents and other mishaps that have occurred due to people's attention being squarely focused on Pokémon GO and now Homer can be added to that list.
It is also symbolic of just how far the reach of Pokémon GO is stretching with multiple companies looking at how they can benefit from marketing initiatives based on Pokémon GO. For instance, while the promo has only been live for four days now, it has already racked up close to 3.4 million YouTube views. Although those Simpsons aficionados will acutely be aware that this is not actually a new clip. The clip itself is from an older Simpsons episode where Homer is busy looking on an iPad for churros. However, the latest promo sees the clip being redubbed and retouched to be more Pokémon GO oriented. You can check out the new promo video in full below.
