Alcatel Idol 4 Available At Cricket Wireless On August 5

Although Alcatel might not be a brand that many Americans immediately associate with smartphones, the company does make some pretty compelling handsets and tablets based on Android. While its products have generally been well-reviewed by the media and well-received by consumers at large, in many parts of the world the company continues to struggle to gain traction. As a way of gaining more recognition and market share in one of the most important consumer technology markets in the world, the company is targeting the growing mid-range and entry-level segments.

After already launching the entry-level Alcatel Dawn on Sprint's prepaid brands, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. Alcatel is now bringing to the United States the Idol 4 mid-range handset, which is slated to be available in the country exclusively on AT&T’s prepaid brand, Cricket Wireless, from the 5th of next month. The device will be priced at $199.99 at full retail, although the actual cost is likely to be higher on account of the taxes that will be charged over and above the advertised price. The device was originally unveiled by the TCL-owned company back at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, alongside a comparatively more premium handset called the Alcatel Idol 4S.

An important point to note here is that the Alcatel Idol 4 comes bundled with a set of VR Goggles, which might be something that users on a budget would be looking forward to. Providing a nice way to pick up both a new handset and a VR headset which is optimized for the device in question and at an affordable price. Coming to the hardware specs of the Alcatel Idol 4 and this is a device which features a 5.2-inch 1080p display  and is powered by the Snapdragon 617 SoC from Qualcomm. The smartphone comes with just 16 GB of internal storage and a choice of either 2 or 3 GB of RAM depending on the model selected. Imaging options include a 13-megapixel camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video chats. The device also comes with LTE connectivity, carries a fast-charging 2,610 mAh battery and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.
