Rumor: Weather-Proof Version of Nest Cam in the Works

Nest has seen a lot of the spotlight in the last few months, for the most part, it hasn't been a good thing. Rumor had it that Nest had an unlimited budget when Google bought them, which changed once Alphabet was formed, which led to Fadell stepping down last week. There have also been reports that the atmosphere at Nest is not the best, and has led to many departures, including Dropcam's CEO just months after Nest bought his company. Reports surfaced after Fadell stepped down that, once Alphabet was formed last year, his priorities as CEO of Nest had changed. Instead of building innovative products, Fadell was forced to grow the business and profits. Leading to him stepping down.

Now that Nest has a new CEO in Marwan Fawaz, the future may be bright for this company. Their roadmap just leaked out this week, and shows a couple of products that the company is working on. There are two products shown, and while they are new, they are actually just evolutions of their current products. First up, the Nest Learning Thermostat is going to be available in "tasteful" colors. Now the source didn't state what colors would be coming, but just that they are "tasteful", so we'll have to wait and see what that might mean.

The second product is an outdoor version of the Nest Cam. Perhaps more accurately, a weather-proof version of the Nest Cam. This outdoor Nest Cam will also use a power cord. Which means that users won't need to remember to replace the batteries. But that also means you'll need to run a power cord out to the camera. Which can be a bit of a nuisance for some. What's also interesting about this rumor, is that 2016 isn't going to be a very exciting year for Nest. However, 2017 is slated to be a big year for the company. The rumor mill hasn't said anything specific just yet, but wording in this rumor has everyone thinking that it is going to be around home security.

It appears that Nest is beginning to get its priorities straight, which are reportedly to make money under Alphabet. Something that Alphabet expects all of their subsidiaries to be able to do. While this outdoor Nest Cam and new colors of the Nest Learning Thermostat may not be that exciting, they will definitely drive some sales for the company.
