In San Francisco yesterday, Lenovo hosted a press conference titled, Lenovo Tech World 2016. As the current owners of Motorola, the crowd was very interested in hearing about the new Moto lineup for 2016 – gone is the 'Moto X' name and replaced by the new 'Moto Z'. The Moto Z, stirred up a lot of excitement with its all-metal body and flagship specs. It took Motorola of Canada less than a day to confirm that the "Moto Z will be broadly available in Canada at various retailers this fall." While the device comes in three variations, – Black with Rose Gold trim, Fine Gold, and Black with Lunar Gray trim – Canada will only be getting the latter. Motorola did not give a hint about pricing, and we'll likely have to wait until it launches later this year for confirmed pricing in Canada.
The new Moto Z sports a stunning 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels giving it 535 pixels-per-inch (PPI.) Lenovo put in the best processor currently on the market – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 which is a quad-core SoC clocked at 2.2GHz and includes the Adreno 530 GPU to handle any graphics you can find in any game. It packs 4GB of DDR4 RAM with an expandable internal storage of 32GB using a microSD card of up to 2TB. A 2600mAh non-removable battery powers the device, which uses the TurboPower charger that can provide you with up to 7 hours of power for a 15-minute charge.
The new Moto Z looks the part of a flagship – aircraft grade aluminum design, with that typical Moto build quality. It has an ultra-thin design, which means the camera sticks out very far and the battery is somewhat small. The primary camera is 13MP using 1.2um pixels, an aperture of f/1.8, Laser Autofocus, dual LED flash, OIS, and an array of special features. The front-facing camera is 5MP, with a f/2.2 aperture, wide-angle lens, 1.4um pixels for better low light shots, and even includes a flash. The usual suspects are there – WiFi, Bluetooth v 4.1, GPS, and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, NFC, and a fingerprint sensor. It measures 153.3 x 75.3 x 5.19, weighs in at 136 grams, and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It also has the nano-coating for water repellency. The Moto Z is listed on their website, but you can only signup to receive updates.
