A number of companies all over the world are manufacturing smartwatches at this point, and yet this is still considered to be a niche product, sort of. Smartwatches still didn’t take off in the true sense of the word, but companies are trying to push them forward and find new ways of making them appealing to consumers. Omate is a company which we’ve talked about a number of times now, this is a smartwatch manufacturing company which is based in Asia (Hong Kong and Shenzen), and they’ve recently introduced a new product, read on.

Omate has unveiled their new Omate Wherecom S3 smartwatch during MedPi in Monaco recently. This is a 3G GPS smartwatch which was announced in collaboration with European Distributor ADMEA and mobile safety, security and LBS specialist, Monitorlinq. Omate has actually signed a distribution agreement with ADMEA for France and Spain, which should help their sales moving forward. As you can already tell, you can insert a SIM card inside of this smartwatch. Now, Omate has introduced this watch as the ‘smartwatch for senior citizens’, and should basically help you keep track of your parents / grandparents at all times. The Omate Wherecom S3 ships with a dialer, message hub, an alarm reminder for medications, a pedometer, and a one-click SOS button (red button on the watch) which basically sends the GPS location of the watch (its wearer) via 3G or Wi-Fi to the connected contacts.

“From fashion sport smartwatch like the Omate Rise, to child-friendly product like the recently released K3, and now this addition of a standalone smartwatch for seniors, Omate really does have something for everyone. A wristwatch is something many seniors have worn all their lives. ADMEA has deep knowledge of the senior segment through its existing product portfolio which makes it the ideal distribution partner for the Omate S3,” said Laurent Le Pen, CEO at Omate. The company said that the Omate Wherecom S3 can last up to two days on a single charge, and it is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6572M dual-core SoC running at 1GHz. The watch also ships with 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. The 1.54-inch 320 x 320 display is located up front, and a 600mAh battery is also a part of this package. The watch measures 37 x 38 x 13.9mm, and it comes with Android with OUI Senior user interface on top of it. This smartwatch is priced at 149 Euros, and will be available in France and Spain starting from September this year.
