After weeks and weeks of teasers, ASUS has finally unveiled their ZenFone 3 handsets. As we expected, the company has introduced three handsets, the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Ultra and their new flagship, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe. We’ve already covered the initial launch of these three devices, and are here to take a closer look at their specifications, there’s plenty to talk about, read on.
Before we start talking about each device separately, it is worth mentioning that all three of them ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, while the ZenUI 3.0 is installed on top of Google’s operating system. All three of these devices are made out of metal (ZenFone 3 Ultra and Deluxe sport a metal unibody design), and all of them sport non-removable batteries. The Bluetooth 4.2 is also included on all three phones, while you’ll be glad to hear that Hi-Res audio is also a part of the package here, the NXP Smart AMP comes out of the box. That being said, let’s take a look at each device separately, we’ll start with the base model, the ASUS ZenFone 3.
The ASUS ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) sports a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved IPS+ LCD display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on top, and it has a 77.3% screen-to-body ratio. This smartphone ships with 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of native storage, while it is fueled by the 14nm Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor running at 1.4GHz. The Adreno 506 GPU is also a part of the SoC package, and it is in charge of graphics processing. The 16-megapixel ASUS PixelMaster 3.0 camera (Sony’s IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 6-element Largan lens) can be found on the back of this phone, while an 8-megapixel snapper is placed on the phone’s front side. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the back of the ASUS ZenFone 3, and you can set it up to recognize up to 5 fingers (360-degree recognition). Aside from the NXP Smart AMP, the ZenFone 3 also sports a new ‘5 Magnet Speaker’ which should provide better audio. The 3,000mAh battery is also a part of the ZenFone 3 package, and it is not removable. The USB Type-C port is placed on the bottom of the ZenFone 3, but keep in mind this is USB 2.0, not 3.0. The phone will be available in Shimmer Gold, Aqua Blue, Sapphire Black and Moonlight White color options.
The ZenFone 3 Ultra (ZU680KL) is ASUS’ all-new phablet. This handset ships with a 6.8-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 79% screen-to-body ratio) display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 on top of it. This phablet is fueled by the Snapdragon 652 64-bit octa-core processor (28nm) running at 1.8GHz, while an Adreno 510 GPU is also a part of the package. The ZenFone 3 Ultra ships with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage, and a 4,600mAh battery is located on the inside, while it offers Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 tech as well. The 23-megapixel ASUS PixelMaster 3.0 camera (Sony’s IMX318 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 6-element Largan lens, 0.03-second TriTech Autofocus, 4-axis photo OIS, 3-axis video EIS) is placed on the back of this device, and an 8-megapixel shooter (85-degree wide-angle lens) can be found up front. Type-C USB 2.0 port can be found on the bottom of the ZenFone 3 Ultra, and this device ships with a front-facing fingerprint scanner. The Dual New 5 Magnet Speaker is a part of the ZenFone 3 Ultra, and same can be said about the DTS HD Premium sound and the PixelWorks 4K TV grade processor. This device also offers reverse charging, and it will be available in Titanium Gray, Glacier Silver and Rose Pink color options.
And finally, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe (ZS570KL). This smartphone is ASUS’ new flagship handset, it is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, and comes with the Adreno 530 GPU for graphics rendering. This smartphone sports a 5.7-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 79% screen-to-body ratio) display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 on top of it. The ZenFone 3 Deluxe is equipped with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.0 native storage. The 23-megapixel ASUS PixelMaster 3.0 camera (Sony’s IMX318 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 6-element Largan lens, 0.03-second TriTech Autofocus, 4-axis photo OIS, 3-axis video EIS) is located on the back of this phone as well, and an 8-megapixel snapper (85-degree wide-angle lens) can be found up front. The Category 13 4G LTE is a part of the ZenFone 3 Deluxe offering, and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner is also available here (360-degree recognition). The ZenFone 3 Deluxe ships with an ‘Always-On’ display, unlike its siblings, and you’ll also find a 3,000mAh battery on the inside of this device. You’ll be able to recharge this battery using Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology, and there are two SIM card slots available here (Hybrid SIM, 1 x Micro SIM, 1 x Nano SIM). On top of all this, it’s worth knowing that the ZenFone 3 Deluxe has no visible antenna lines, which makes the device look even better overall. The ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe will be available in Titanium Gray, Glacier Silver and Sand Gold color variants.
UPDATE: added 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage variant of the ZenFone 3 (base model). This device model wasn’t mentioned in ASUS’ initial press release, but it has been confirmed by Engadget.
