UMi is a China-based company which we've talked about quite a few times in the last year or so. This company has announced a number of interesting, and yet affordable smartphones, like the UMi Iron and UMi eMax, for example. That being said, our contact at the company has sent us a prototype picture of the upcoming UMi Touch X handset last month, a device with no bezels on the side. Well, the device has now been announced by the company, read on.
First and foremost, it is worth mentioning that the device looks somewhat different than we thought, it is not as squarish as the first render suggested, the company decided to round its edges to an extent. Its specifications are also different than originally suggested, at least according to the source site. As you can see in the images down below, this is a very sleek looking handset due to the bezel-less design, there are no black bars on the sides it seems, the phone's display connects directly with the metallic frame. This is not the first such handset we've seen, the Nubia Z9 sported a similar design, and so does the Elephone P9000 Edge, though the latter hasn't been released yet. As far as specs are concerned, the UMi Touch X features a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved LTPS display with Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it. The device is fueled by MediaTek's MT6735 64-bit quad-core SoC running at 1.3GHz, along with the Mali-T720 GPU for graphics. The 8-megapixel snapper (Sony's IMX219 sensor) is placed on the back of this phone, and a 2-megapixel shooter can be found up front. The LED-flash is also available on the back of this phone, while there's a 4,000mAh battery available here as well. The phone packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card). There are two SIM card slots available here, one of which can be used to expand the device's memory. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the UMi Touch X, and the device offers 4G LTE connectivity as well.
That is more or less it. The UMi Touch X specs turned out to be somewhat different than originally suggested, and we're still not sure how much will the phone cost. This information comes from a Russian site, not the directly from the company though, so we're waiting for a confirmation from UMi.
UPDATE: Pre-orders start on April 21st, and the device is priced at $129.99.
