Square Enix is no stranger to the Play Store and the Android operating system. They have plenty of games available both as ports of classic titles and as newly imagined mobile originals. Kingdom Hearts Unchained X is not exactly an original title as it was previously available as a browser game, but it’s been fitted for mobile devices and has finally launched in the Play Store in the U.S. Square Enix first announced that Kingdom Hearts Unchained X would be coming to Android back during E3 last year, and prior to the game launching in the U.S. it was available on both Android and iOS platforms in Japan, so the game is not technically new to Android.

If you’re a fan of the Kingdom Hearts universe, then you already know that the franchise fuses together iconic Square Enix Final Fantasy characters with popular Disney characters. With Unchained X, the game’s story takes place before all of the events of the other games in the series so this acts kind of like a prequel to anything gamers may have played so far for consoles. Gameplay is relatively simple with easy controls by tapping on screen to move and to attack, although there are a few different elements to look out for as well, like the special attacks you can unleash by swiping on a character icon from the bottom left corner of the screen inward. To do these attacks though you’ll have to gather “lux,” a form of light that you obtain from defeating enemies.

You’ll be able to do complete some light customization of your character avatar before starting your journey, and as you progress through the game you can collect multiple characters medals, of which there are hundreds according to SE, and these afford the player powerful attacks. They can also be evolved to unleash even more devastating power. The game is broken up into bite-sized portions so you won’t have to play for an hour or so just to get to a save point, which makes this an easy game to take anywhere. There is also a decent amount of dialogue and story to enjoy so it won’t just feel like a simple mindless experience. Kingdom Hearts Unchained X is free to play and it does offer in-app purchases.
