LG's 360 CAM Gets Certified By Google Street View

LG G5 360 Camera MWC AH 04

LG had plenty to say at their press conference during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last month. This Korea-based company has not only announced the modular LG G5 flagship, but has also introduced a lot of accessories which they’ll sell for that smartphone. The LG G5 features top of the line specifications, while its ‘chin’ is removable, and that’s where the fun begins. LG has introduced a couple of add-ons, or as they call them ‘modules’, to take advantage of that port at the bottom of the G5. One of those modules is the LG 360 CAM which we’re here to talk more about, read on.

Google has actually decided to give LG the Google Street View API access on the Google Street view application, which means that LG 360 CAM users will basically be able to upload their images straight into the app. LG 360 CAM is actually the first product to receive that API, and it will be interesting to see what happens next. For those of you who don’t know, LG 360 CAM shoots 360-degree spherical images and videos in high-res format. Once you get this camera, you can simply download the Google Street View applications and start making and uploading 360-degree content.

“This announcement of the LG 360 CAM means a lot to over 500 million Street View users and all who loves to create and share 360-degree contents. With its capability to create 16MP images, the LG 360 CAM will be the most preferable choice for anyone to join in the fun of 360-degree content,” said Charles Armstrong, Product Manager of Google Street View. In addition to that, here’s what LG’s VP and Head of Product Planning, Kim Hong-joo, had to say: “Until recently, creating 360-degree images and videos required expensive and heavy equipment out of the reach of everyday consumers. LG 360 CAM will enable users to create their own content easily and share them freely in a way that nurtures a new mobile ecosystem within the LG Playground.”

The LG 360 CAM features two 13-megapixel sensors on the inside, which are capable of producing 16-megapixel images. The camera offers two capture modes, the 360-degree Spherical, and 180-degree Hemispherical mode. There are three microphones on the inside which enable 5.1 channel sound recording, and a 1,200mAh battery is included in this package. LG’s 360 CAM has a microSD card slot, and you can input a microSD card of up to 2TB. The camera packs in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while it will be available in Silver color only, at least for now. The device measures 40 x 97 x 25mm, while it weighs 76.7 grams.
