Vivo Confirms XPlay 5; Teaser Hints At Curved Screen

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has confirmed that an all-new flagship smartphone called the Vivo XPlay 5 is indeed in the works. Earlier this week, the company officially posted some teaser images of its upcoming smartphone on the country's favorite microblogging site, Weibo. Apart from confirming the name of the upcoming device, the images have also seemingly confirmed a feature that has thus far been restricted to very few high-end devices and that too, from multinational behemoths like Samsung. While Vivo doesn't say so explicitly, the images posted on Weibo suggest that the upcoming XPlay 5 will have curved edges on both sides, much like what can be found on premium Samsung smartphones like the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Last year itself, Vivo was rumored to be working on a premium smartphone that will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm, pack as much as 6 GB of RAM and feature a curved display as its USP. While the name of that device was rumored to be the XPlay 5s, latest images released officially by the company show no hint of the letter 'S' in the name of the device. Either way, latest rumors regarding the upcoming Vivo smartphone also suggest that the device will carry a Snapdragon 820 chip under its hood, sport 6 GB of RAM and if the latest official images are anything to go by, feature a curved panel as its unique selling point. Earlier rumors had also claimed the display panel will actually be a massive 6-inch unit that will come with a 2K resolution.

While none of the rumored hardware specs of Vivo's upcoming flagship smartphone has been officially confirmed by the company, the device is said to also include a 4,000 mAh battery along with Hi-Fi audio. Whichever way one looks at it, the curved high-resolution 6-inch panel will certainly have a novelty factor and it remains to be seen how much attention the company will be able to garner with its new product. Sadly though, there's no official ETA for the Vivo XPlay 5 just as yet, nor is there an indication about the pricing, but whenever there's any further info regarding this device, we'll let you know.
