Android Wear smartwatches are starting to heat up now that Qualcomm has announced new silicon and voice calling will be hitting new watch releases throughout the year. With Mobile World Congress just around the corner, we could be looking at new watches launching before the end of the month. For now though, why don’t we take a look at some of the best Android Wear apps or watch faces for February, 2016.
Ceto Watch Face
There are a lot of users that miss the classic LCD style of watches from the 90’s and 00’s and Ceto is a simple watch face that brings all of that back. With the weather, time – of course – battery and the date all displayed here, it’s also a nice and functional watch face that gets the job done.
Okay, okay, so there might not be as many Pokemon fans out there these days, but the games still command a devout following, and it’s not hard to see why. For those that are looking to dive deep into the stat-churning, number-crunching mechanics of Pokemon games from the last few years, PocketDex is a great little Android app to help do just that. It’s recently been updated with Android Wear support and users can now get detailed stats and such from their wrist, while they clutch onto their 3DS with their other hand.
Various-Eye for Android
Various-Eye is a watch face that offers those looking for a simple, straightforward digital watch face a little something extra. With lots of different color choices and options available, Various-Eye keeps the focus on the time, making it nice and easy to use your watch for what it was designed for, but it also has a little eye candy on offer, too. It’s not a free watch face, but for some that’s not so much of a problem.
PRDTR Watch Face
PRDTR is a watch face for those cult movie fans, and especially fans of the Alien and Predator line of films. Available in both pitiful human numbers as well as the clearly-superior Yautja language from the hit 70’s film, this is a good-looking watch face. It’s retro Sci-Fi through and through, and while it won’t be for everyone, there will be people out there that will absolutely love this sort of thing. It might be considered a little expensive, but it’s probably more something for big fans than anything else.
Documents for Android Wear
Documents for Android Wear is an app from the same developer that bought us a web browser to our wrists. This allows users to load up documents found in their Google Drive storage, and while you won’t be writing War & Peace on your wrist, it’s perhaps useful for checking small changes or revisions? Either way, this is a novel idea and perhaps in later versions might actually have quite a bit of use. The free version here however, only allows users to view the first page of any given document.
Red Monkey watchface by Mowmow
In case you hadn’t heard, 2016 is the Chinese Year of the Monkey, as the Chinese New Year has just begun. For those that have been celebrating, or just for those that have suddenly discovered the Zodiac, this Red Monkey watch face is a little bit of fun. It’s essentially just a simple digital clock with a little bit of artwork, but it’s not a bad-looking watch face and it will of course work on both square and round watch faces that are out there.
Magic 8 Ball 3D
Let’s be honest, when our smartwatches aren’t pumping notifications to our wrists in order to keep us sane there’s not much more they can do for us. Which leads us to the classic Magic 8 Ball, now available on your wrist! It’s perhaps not that exciting, but it’s at least something to consider, and it’s good fun to show off to friends and family, it’ll definitely be something to show off to the little ones, anyway.
Watchface Maximus Light
Maximus Light is a sort of retro-futuristic watch face that will appeal to players of Fallout 4, those looking for a classic watch face and perhaps fans of Mad Men as well as other 40’s and 50’s designs. It’s a free watch face to download and it also has a bonus battery display as well. Classic and functional, this has a lot going for it.
Deep Blue Watch Face
Deep Blue Watch Face is something for those looking for a little glamor as well as a classic look and feel. It looks good and works well, along with a lot of different displays for the likes of battery info and such. Above all though, this is a watch face for someone missing their Swiss classic or those looking to smarten up whatever sort of watch that they do have. Good-looking and smart, this is a nice watch face to have available.
MATERIAL Watch Face HD
Material Watch Face HD is, yes, another watch face that channels Material Design, but it’s a little different. Here, the layered look of Material Design really stands out, and it has an excellent ambient mode. With a great typeface and strong, geometric looks this is one of the few Material Design watch faces that actually manages to stand out from the rest.
