The latest version of the Android operating system, Android 6.0 or more simply, Marshmallow, isn’t running on many devices even though it was released almost 5 months ago. Some companies like HTC and LG worked hard to release the update as fast as they could, while others seem to have taken their time to customize the interface for their devices. Making sure everything works just fine. Sony fits into the latter category, as they haven’t released Marshmallow for any of their devices yet. The company released a conceptual Marshmallow build a while ago and they have been constantly updating it with new features, something that may have led some users to think the update would be available sooner rather than later.

Naturally, most users with an Xperia smartphone should be wondering about an estimated date for the update to reach their device. The company has been asked about this many times and they finally answered that the update would start rolling out at the beginning of March for some of their most recent devices, such as the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Xperia Z3+. The company usually updates their most recent flagship devices first and sooner than older high-end or mid-range devices. Now, Sony Mobile mentioned on their official Twitter account that they are still working on the update, but more news should become available in the coming weeks. The message is quite ambiguous, so while it might seem that the development of the software is being a little delayed, it could also mean that their plan of releasing it on March 7 is still possible.

A few hours ago, Sony announced new premium mid-range smartphones, and they are all running on Android Marshmallow, so some of the changes that would be included in the new software version can be appreciated in the new handsets. It’s nice to know that the company updated a few visual aspects of the UI even if the stock version of Marshmallow didn’t bring many of them. Meanwhile, the wait goes on until more official news comes though on when Xperia devices will be updated to Marshmallow.
