Omate Announces Wherecom K3 Smartwatch For Kids

We've seen quite a few smartwatches introduces in 2015, and by the looks of it, that trend will continue this year as well. The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is right around the corner, and we'll probably see tons of new wearables announced, and smartwatches will quite probably be a part of that picture. Well, Omate has just announced their new smartwatch which will be showcased on the show floor in Barcelona, the Omate Wherecom K3, read on.

The Omate Wherecom K3 is a smartwatch for kids, much like the one ZTE & KDDI announced earlier this month. Now, these two smartwatches are not all that similar, except they're both aimed at kids, of course. The Omate Wherecom K3 came out of Omate's partnership with Monitorlinq, a family mobile safety & location-based alert services specialist company. Omate says that this smartwatch is designed for kids between ages six and nine, and it features a child-friendly Wherecom User Interface which runs on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop. This smartwatch can last up to two days on a charge, according to the company, and it offers GPS, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.

"Omate is the pioneer of the standalone smartwatch segment. The Omate Wherecom K3 enhances our mission to connect every family member through a wearable experience. Today, kids know how to interact with the touchscreen at a very young age; they will definitely enjoy wearing the Wherecom K3. While parents have to teach children to cope with potential dangers, Monitorlinq brings the most secure ecosystem allowing them to locate their children anytime and anywhere," says Laurent Le Pen, CEO at Omate.

The Omate Wherecom K3 features a 1.54-inch 320 x 320 TFT display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The device is fueled by MediaTek's MT6572M dual-core SoC running at 1GHz, and a 600mAh battery is available on the inside. This watch takes in a micro SIM card, and packs in Bluetooth as well, of course. The watch measures 38 x 37 x 13.9mm, and it definitely looks like a kids watch, and it is primarily meant to track your kids it seems, so that you always know where they are. There are a number of official images available in the gallery down below, if you'd like to take a closer look at the watch. That being said, Omate Wherecom K3 will be available unlocked for $129 starting from April 2016, and you'll be able to buy it through Omate distributors.
