Gionee is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer most of you have probably heard of by now. This company has introduced quite a few compelling devices in the last year or so, including their Elife E8 flagship phablet, and a number of additional, mostly mid-range offerings. Gionee has released a number of big battery 'Marathon' smartphones in the last couple of months, and it seems like the company plans to introduce yet another compelling offering during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of this month.
The company has already confirmed that the Gionee Elife S8 will be introduced on February 21st, and the device has popped up on Geekbench as well quite recently, and by doing that it reveals its specifications. According to Geekbench, this handset will be fueled by MediaTek's Helio P10 64-bit octa-core SoC, and will ship with 4GB of RAM on the inside. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come pre-installed on this device with Gionee's custom UI installed on top of it. The Gionee Elife S8 (GN9011) managed to score 851 points in the single-core, and 3,148 points in the multi-core benchmark on Geekbench.
That being said, the device has now popped up on GFXBench as well, and pretty much filled in the gaps. GFXBench's listing confirms the aforementioned spec details, while it also adds some additional ones. The Gionee Elife S8 will ship with a 4.6-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) panel according to GFXBench. Keep in mind that it's possible the listing is a bit off, and that we're looking at a 5-inch panel after all, that would make more sense, but we'll see. The listing also revealed that the phone will ship with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter, while the device that was tested sported 64GB of internal storage. That is pretty much it, the Gionee Elife S8 will be introduced on February 21st during MWC in Barcelona, that is actually the same day Samsung will launch the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, not to mention LG is planning to introduce the G5 as well. Either way, stay tuned for additional info, we'll keep you posted.
UPDATE: Phone Radar listed the wrong date for the announcement, the device will be announced on February 22nd after all.
