Sony Relaunches News App As 'News Suite' With New UI

News apps are pretty much a dime a dozen these days. No matter how you choose to get your news on mobile there is arguably a choice for just about everyone, and while most news apps are third party from various developers, some come from big name companies like Google's Play Newsstand and Sony's Socialife app which has now been redesigned as News Suite, bringing along not only a new experience and a few new features, but a completely new user interface design that is a bit more modern than the previous version of the application that users had before.

For those that are existing users before the name change, there are a few features which Sony has discontinued including viewing or posting things from/to social feeds like Twitter or YouTube, and users can no longer sync created news lists between devices. Lastly, Sony has discontinued the ability to add news into the feed by entering a URL, although they do state that they plan to bring this feature back down the road in a future update. They also plan to support tablets in the future. As for what's new, long-time users will immediately notice the redesigned UI within the app that now offers a tab for various news categories with top articles and a tab for "my feeds" which allows users to add news they want to see specifically from certain sites or outlets. Within the my feeds tab users can add articles by keyword search, or they can simply add feeds by popularity or by category. There is also an option called "easy registration" that automatically adds a few top choices from a selected category like popular news selection or gaming news selection.

This new approach the app UI allows users to seamlessly move back and forth between their specifically chosen feeds and a random assortment of the top news from around the world about various topics such as Travel, Lifestyle, Business, Technology and more. Other than the overflow menu for the app settings and help section, users can also set their location within the app to be shown the current weather conditions and temperature. News Suite is available in the Play Store for anyone and not just Sony devices.
