Obi Worldphone, formerly known as Obi Mobiles, is a company founded by former CEO of Apple Inc. and PepsiCo, Mr. John Sculley. The company's name, of course, may not necessarily ring a bell with most smartphone aficionados, but that's mostly because it was founded only in 2014, and has only launched a handful of devices thus far as it tries to scale up its operations, going forward. The company says that it is planning to operate mostly in emerging markets around the world, and offer Android-powered devices that provide value for money in terms of hardware specs and software features. The latest flagship smartphone from the company, the Worldphone SF1, was announced back in August last year, and went on sale in India exclusively on NDTV's Gadgets360 portal. Now, however, the company has announced that the device will be available for purchase on Amazon India with immediate effect.
Taking a look at the hardware specs of the Worldphone SF1, the device features a 5-inch 1080p In-Cell IPS floating glass display that is manufactured by JDI and protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 4. The handset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset that comes with an integrated octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum frequency of 1.5 GHz, along with an Adreno 405 GPU. The smartphone comes in two different variants - one with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage and another with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Both versions, however, have the ability to accept microSD cards of up to 64 GB in capacity to expand storage. The device carries a 3,000 mAh battery and comes with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with Obi's own customized 'Lifespeed' user interface.
As for the cameras, the Worldphone SF1 sports a 13-megapixel Sony IMX214 sensor as its primary shooter that comes with an LED flash and an f/2.0 aperture. The front-facing camera, meanwhile, comes with a 5-megapixel sensor or unspecified make, but has an accompanying LED flash for well-lit selfies. The phone features Dolby audio and comes with the usual connectivity options, including 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS. As for the dimensions, the phone measures 146 mm in length, 74 mm in width and 8 mm in thickness. The Worldphone SF1 weighs 147 grams and is priced at Rs. 11,999 ($180).
