Back towards the end of April, Acer unveiled their latest approach to the tablet market in the form of the Acer Iconia One 8 B1-820. As well as being a smaller sized tablet, this was also one which was designed to be a smaller priced tablet and came with a $149.99 price tag. Following on from this, Acer has today announced the introduction to their latest Iconia One 8 tablet in the form of the B1-850.
The big difference here is that the newer B1-850 looks to be an even more affordable tablet than the B1-820, as this one is designed to arrive for consumers in North America at the lower $99.99 price. However, the trade-off is that some of the aspects have been slightly downgraded from the previous model and most notably in the camera department with the latest version boasting a 5-megapixel rear camera which is coupled with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Due to the nature of tablets not really being ideal or oriented for picture taking, this might not be much of a trade-off for the lower price point,
In term of the rest of the specs, much remains the same as the B1-820, with the latest version coming equipped with a 8-inch display which makes use of a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, the B1-850 comes loaded with 1GB RAM and will be powered by a MediaTek Quad-core processor (compared to the Intel Atom processor which was in use with the B1-820). Additional specs include 16GB storage and a microSD card slot for expandable storage (up to 128GB), while the tablet comes running on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). In terms of the additional features, some of the features which were present on the previous model are once again included like EX WakeUp, EZ Snap and System Doctor. However, the B1-850 also comes with more of an emphasis on being a family-friendly tablet and comes preloaded with a 'Kids Center' app which will offer child-friendly content (including videos, games, books and suitable websites) as well as a more child-friendly user interface.
For those interested, the Iconia One 8 B1-850 is due to become available starting from $99.99 in North America and will also be available in EMEA starting from €129. In terms of when, Acer note the latest Iconia One 8 will arrive in EMEA sometime this month and will land in North American in February. Last but not least, the Acer Iconia One 8 B1-850 will be available with a choice of either a blue or white back cover.
