Featured: Top 10 Best Chromebooks - January 2016

With 2016 now here and in full swing, it is expected that this year will see the Chrome OS platform continuing to grow and expand. If you have yet to test out a Chrome OS running device, then there has never been a better time to do so. There is currently a wide selection of Chromebooks now available and from some of the biggest names in the industry. Not to mention, in spite of Chromebooks being designed to be affordable devices in general, there is also quite the variance in price, with a number of entry level options available and right up to top of the range models. Whatever your needs, there is a Chromebook to match them and below is our top ten list of Chromebooks for January.

10. Acer Chromebook C740

The Acer Chromebook C740 is one of the newest Chromebooks to land on the market and certainly one of the latest from Acer. That said, in spite of being a newer addition, it is not a cheap Chromebook (by Chromebooks standards), although it does come with some pretty decent specs, including an 11.6-inch display and which comes boasting a 1366 x 768 resolution. Inside, the C740 offers 4GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and comes powered by an Intel Celeron (3205U) dual-core processor.

9. Toshiba Chromebook 2

The Toshiba Chromebook 2 has been a fan favorite ever since its release and as such, continually pops up as one of the best Chromebooks currently available. In terms of the specs, the Toshiba Chromebook 2 comes equipped with a larger sized 13.3-inch display which offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, we are looking at 4GB RAM, 16GB storage and the Chromebook comes powered by an Intel Celeron processor. Good option for those looking for a well-performing and larger display Chromebook.

8. HP Chromebook 14

Like the Toshiba option, the HP Chromebook 14 also continues to be a highly popular choice for new Chromebook options. Coming with an even larger sized display than the Toshiba option, this one offers a 14-inch display which makes use of a 1366 x 768 resolution. Inside, the HP Chromebook comes equipped with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and comes powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor. Another solid option for those looking for a nice performing Chromebook with a larger display.

7. Samsung Chromebook 2

The Samsung Chromebook 2 is the first Chromebook on the list this month to really offer a level of choice with two equally different options available. The first comes with a smaller 11.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. Inside, it comes equipped with 2GB RAM and powered by a Samsung Exynos 5 octa 5420 processor. The other option makes use of a much larger 13.3-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. While inside, this one also sees a spec-boost to 4GB RAM and being powered by a Samsung Exynos 5 octa 5800 processor. This month, the smaller of the two can be picked up for under $200, making it a good option to currently consider.

6. Lenovo 100s Chromebook

In terms of prices, the Lenovo 100s was one of the most affordable priced Chromebooks at launch. So much so, this one is designed to be an entry-level priced and performing Chromebook. So while the specs will not blow anyone away, the fact that it can be picked up for under $170 makes this a seriously good option to consider. For the money, you can expect an 11.6-inch display, along with 2GB RAM and powered by an Intel Celeron (N2840) processor.

5. ASUS Chromebook Flip

Another recent arrival which instantly found its way into top ten lists was the ASUS Chromebook Flip. This is designed to be a Chromebook which is far more versatile than many of the others and as such, if 'portability' is your main focus when shopping for a new Chromebook, then the Flip should be one of the first that you check out. In terms of the specs, there is nothing to be ashamed of here with the Chromebook Flip boasting 4GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and being powered by a Rockchip processor. The screen is where the downsizing occurs, as this one comes equipped with a 10.1-inch tablet-sized display.

4. Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131

The Acer CB3-131 Chromebook 11 is the very latest Chromebook to become available from Acer. In fact, this one was originally scheduled to be released next month. However, this week saw the news come through that it is now currently available to buy. Similar to the Lenovo option, the CB3-131 looks to offer the consumers a very reliable Chromebook, although this one certainly places more of an emphasis on its build quality. In terms of price, the Acer Chromebook CB3-131 is currently available for $179.99 and for that money you can expect an 11.6-inch display, which offers a 1366 x 768 resolution. Inside, the CB3-131 comes loaded with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and comes powered by an Intel Celeron (N2840) processor.

3. Dell Chromebook 13

Dell does not seem to release anywhere near the number of Chromebooks that other manufacturers on the list do, but when they do release one, it is a good one and their latest option, the Dell Chromebook 13 is a prime example. As well as coming equipped with a 13-inch display, this one is a Chromebook which is available in a number of RAM and storage combinations, so you can choose the one which is best for you. Although, the price does reflect the RAM and storage option chosen and even the least spec option comes in at $399. However, you are getting a great build and the ability to choose a Chromebook to match your needs.

2. Chromebook Pixel

On paper, the Chromebook Pixel is undoubtedly the best Chromebook you can buy. However, it is also the most expensive Chromebook, so you are paying for what you get and with prices starting from $999, these are not cheap by any standard. That said, for the big price tag you can expect the baseline version to come with 8GB RAM, 32GB storage and an Intel i5 processor. If you can stretch to $1299, then you are looking at 16GB RAM, 64GB internal storage and an Intel i7 processor.

1. Acer Chromebook 15

The Acer Chromebook 15 is not the newest Chromebook on the list and it certainly is not the most powerful. However, when you factor in price, quality, choice and specs, it is hard to argue with the value on offer and this is why the Chromebook 15 maintains its position at the top. As well as coming with the largest Chromebook display (15.6-inches), the Acer Chromebook is available in a multitude of options, so once again you can pick the RAM and storage configuration which best suits your needs.
