A rumor reported on yesterday by sections of the online tech media suggested that LG Electronics might have already started rolling out Marshmallow to its last year’s flagship smartphone, the G3, in Poland. The report however, was emphatically denied by an LG Poland official, Mr. Jaroslaw Bukowski, who took to Twitter to say the following, “Yes, LG G3 will be updated to Marshmallow soon, in Poland. No, I don’t know the date. No, I don’t know when it’s coming to other countries”. While most G3 owners would have fixated over the denial itself, the “soon” part might have gone under the radar a bit. Now, however, the South Korean manufacturer’s Polish unit has taken to Facebook to clear the air after the false alarm on Tuesday.
According to the company’s official post on the world’s largest social networking site, the Android 6.0 rollout for the G3 will start shortly. This time, for real. This however, won’t be the first LG device to get the taste of Marshmallow. At least a couple of the company’s handsets have already received the much-awaited update, at least in the US. One of those two devices happen to be the LG G4, which is the company’s 2015 flagship, while the other one happens to be a mid-ranger called G Stylo. The one common denominator between the two is that it was Sprint that was proactive in rolling out the latest major version of Android to both devices earlier this month.
Coming to the LG G3, the device is the 2014 flagship of the South Korean company, as mentioned already. The handset was launched early last year with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, with LG’s proprietary Optimus UI laid on top. LG has since rolled out Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to it earlier this year, so when Marshmallow finally reaches the device, it will be the second major version update for the G3 in about a year. As for the hardware on the handset, the G3 features a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset. The device comes with either 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage or 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The handset also comes with a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera, and carries a 3,000 mAh battery.
