YU is a rather interesting India-based company. This is a very young company actually, and it is owned by Micromax, the largest India-based smartphone OEM. YU has released a couple of devices thus far, and pretty much all of them are either entry-level or mid-range. Their devices are powered by Cyanogen OS or stock Android, depending on which you decided to purchase. YU sells their phones in India only, at least for now, and up until this point, their devices were available for purchase only over the internet.
That being said, YU Televentures has recently announced that they'll start selling their products at physical offline retail stores across the country. How are they going to pull this off? Well, the company has partnered up with Reliance Retail, which will basically make this possible. The YU Yunique, Yureka and Yuphoria smartphones will be available at 30,000+ outlets in India, and the sales have already kicked off. That's not all though, all of these devices will be VoLTE (Voice over LTE) enabled, which was not the case up until this point.
You may wonder how much will they cost, well, let's see. The YU Yunique will be priced at Rs. 6,499, Yuphoria will cost Rs. 10,999, and the Yureka Plus will set you back Rs. 10,999. This move will definitely benefit YU because not everyone are ready to purchase smartphones over the internet just yet. YU's devices were selling really well until now, and this move might boost their sales even more. Offering their smartphone for sale at retail outlets will give consumers a chance to try them out before they decide to purchase them, and it will also give insight to people who have never heard of the brand in India.
That being said, it is also worth mentioning that YU is getting ready to launch their flagship soon, the YU Yutopia. YU's CEO has already confirmed that the device is on the way, and the company has teased its arrival a couple of times thus far. We've also seen leaked specifications of the YU Yutopia, and judging by those, this will be a really powerful device, and the first high-end smartphone YU is going to release.
