If you’ve never heard of this brand before, NO.1 is a Chinese electronics manufacturer that made its name by cloning famous brands such as the Galaxy line from Samsung. When you buy a smartphone, the more expensive and beautiful it is, the more afraid you are of dropping it, since it is very likely to break, scratch and so on. However, this problem is non-existent on rugged smartphones, and NO.1 has had a history of releasing such devices, starting with the X-Men X1 about a year ago. Following the success of the phone, back in February the company released its second rugged phone, the NO.1 X-Men X2, with some better hardware specs than its predecessor and a pretty decent specs lists for just over $200. Last Monday NO.1 unveiled their newest device, the upgraded X2i, with a really nice hardware bump.

Offering IP68 protection, this 4G LTE handset is waterproof, shatterproof, dustproof, scratchproof, freeze proof and should be able to withstand a good amount of pressure – well, the first NO.1 X1 had a car running over it and survived without a scratch. As for the hardware, the device is powered by a MediaTek MTK6735 64-bit processor running at 1.3 GHz, coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Although it is not clear, the NO.1 X1 had an external storage slot with support for microSD cards of up to 128 GB. The device has a 5.5-inch screen with HD resolution with a 3000 mAh battery. The rear camera has a 13-megapixel sensor, while the front facing shooter comes with 5 MP. The handset is powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop.

One of the main differences of the previous version is that the X2i comes with 2 GB of RAM and is powered by the MediaTek processor, while the X2 ran on the Snapdragon 410 SoC by Qualcomm with just 1 GB of RAM. One thing it didn’t improve was the battery – while this one has a 3000 mAh battery inside, the X2 had a whopping 4,500 mAh battery which could power the smartphone for at least a couple of days. The company didn’t reveal any release date or pricing information, but based on the previous version, we may get some clues on thigs. The NO.1 X2 was available for $204 and you could easily buy it from Amazon.
