HTC's recently released One A9 is something of an interesting device. Called a "hero product" by HTC, it has been designed to appeal to people who light the iPhone's slim, light and relatively compact build and design, but who also appreciate the good build quality of the smartphone, but do not enjoy Apple's walled garden approach and high price. The One dispenses with bleeding edge specification and instead uses a selection of mid-range hardware combined with an attractive (and yes, iPhone-esque) design, but with some of HTC's magic dust sprinkled onto the smartphone. The device comes with a 13MP rear camera, high-quality on-device audio complete with BoomSound and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It's available in two distinct flavors: there's a 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage model available, plus a 3 GB RAM, 32 GB storage version. Both use the relatively new and distinctly mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset and a 5.0-inch, 1080p FHD AMOLED panel.
When the One A9 was released, HTC explained that the device was available on sale at a special reduced price of $399.99, but that this price would be increasing by $100. This happened on the 7 November, last Saturday as it happens, but for today HTC have dropped the price again. However, to be specific the price drop is not just for the One A9, it's for a number of products available on HTC's website. There are three tiers of discount available: spend $200 or more and receive a 15% discount. Increase your spend to $400 and receive a 20% discount, or spend over $650 and receive a 30% discount.
The 20% discount puts the $499.99 HTC One A9 right back down to $399.99, so if you were kicking yourself because you missed the special price, here's your chance: customers have until 11:59pm tonight, Pacific Time, to order from the website. However, there is an additional caveat here, which is the sales will end if the website runs out of stock. HTC are including the One M9, Google Nexus 9 and Desire Eye in the promotion too, but unfortunately the RE camera is showing as out of stock on the website. The Desire 626 is also available on the HTC website but the selling price of $179 means it is excluded from the deal unless combined with another product.
