One continued aspect of most modern smartphones, is that they seem to be escalating in price when compared to their previous generations. One reason for this is the increase in cost of components inside these devices. The newer generation components cost more, therefore, collectively, the devices cost more as well. However, that is not always the case. While some processors have risen in price, MediaTek has managed to bring to market a variety of processors which are designed to offer some of the best in class levels of performance, while also being far more affordable. MediaTek’s recent approach to populating the market with these processors has come in the form of a dual-pronged approach with two specific lines of processors, the Helio X and Helio P ranges. With the first of the X range announced as the Helio X10.
The MediaTek Helio X10 is a 64-bit processor which makes uses of a total clock speed of 2.2 GHz. The X10 is an octa-core processor which comes with eight Cortex-A53 cores. As well as including an integrated PowerVR GPU and supporting refresh rates of up to 120Hz, as well as video recording at 480- frames per second. This means that the Helio X10 is very much quite the powerhouse processor. However, the benefit of the Helio X10 over other processors is that it comes to the manufacturers, and therefore the consumer, at a much cheaper price print. This means that as well as being included in some of the worldwide brand devices like those from HTC, the Helio X10 can also be seen in a number of more affordable handsets, handsets which offer a powerful processing capacity without adding unnecessarily to their cost.
This is why a number of Chinese manufacturers have been quick to take up the MediaTek Helio X10. As it does offer power and performance, as well as an affordable price, manufacturers like Xiaomi have been quick to include the Mediatek X10 in their popular Redmi devices. In fact, you can find this processor in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and also in the newer Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Likewise, Meizu is another manufacturer who has looked to include the Helio X10 in their devices, with the most recent addition being the Meizu Metal. All three of these devices are ones which come in at the sub-$250 level and offer a wide degree of performance and power for the cost.
