A few months ago, ahead of the Snapdragon 820 announcement, Qualcomm announced Quick Charge 3.0. Which is the next step in the evolution of their Quick Charge standard. With Quick Charge 2.0 being available in so many devices, and being very popular. Qualcomm opted to add Quick Charge 3.0 to other processors, and not just the Snapdragon 820. These include the Snapdragon 430, 617, 618, and 620. Now the newly announced HTC One A9 has the Snapdragon 617 and does include support for Quick Charge 3.0, however there is not a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter in the box. Quick Charge 3.0 was made to charge devices up to 4x faster than conventional charging. Pretty exciting right?

In order to take advantage of Quick Charge 3.0, there are two things you need, basically. One is a device that uses either the Snapdragon 430, 617, 618, 620 or 820. Also the device needs to actually support the Quick Charge 3.0 standard, which most should. The other thing is you need a charger capable of supporting Quick Charge 3.0. We’ve already seen a number of them available, and now Anker has joined that elite group and has their Anker PowerPort +1 available with Quick Charge 3.0 right now. Seeing as it does support Quick Charge 3.0, it’s a larger charger than you’d probably expect, and that’s to pack in all of that power. Additionally, there is just one USB port. So you’ll be stuck with charging just one device at a time.
The Anker PowerPort +1 is like many other Quick Charge chargers, where it is backwards compatible. So if you plug in a device that does not support Quick Charge at all, like say the OnePlus X, it will charge at it’s normal speed and won’t kill the battery. That’s definitely a good thing. Anker quotes this as being compatible with USB Type-C as well, which is great considering USB Type-C is the future. However you will need a USB Type-A to Type-C cable to actually use it. Anker also is touting that they have proprietary technology which provides surge protection, temperature control and a few other safety features to keep both you and your device safe.
To celebrate this launch of the PowerPort +1, Anker is offering it for just $19.99, that’s $6 off of the regular price. Now this will only last until November 28th, so you’ll want to order yours before then. You’ll need to use the code UPNPHQKU at checkout to get the discounted price as well.
