As usual for this time of year, we've been hearing rumor after rumor of a new Droid line of products coming from Verizon and Motorola. Today, the United States' largest wireless network has announced yet another pair of Droid devices, again created by Motorola exclusively for the Big Red network. As with last year's Droid Turbo, this year's follow-up is packed full of the best specs out there in a form factor that should suit everyone, dressed up in a look and feel that just screams power.
Unlike previous Droid devices, this year's Droid Turbo 2 has more Motorola DNA in it than ever before, and borrows even more from the Moto X playbook. Like for instance, the ability to order the 64GB model directly from Motorola and choose from a thousand different hardware configurations in Horween leather, Ballistic Nylon and Soft touch. Of course, what most Droid fans want to know is what's on the inside of this latest version, and it shouldn't disappoint this year, either. The display is a 5.4-inch Quad HD AMOLED panel, that's a resolution of 2560 x 1600, and a 2.0 Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 810 running the show.
The Turbo has always been about speed, and while that Snapdragon 810 will be speedy, this year's Droid Turbo 2 ships with a 25W charger in the box that Verizon says will deliver a whopping 13-hours of battery life from a 15-minute charge. Speaking about battery, there's a 3,760 mAh battery under the hood of this guy, and Verizon is promising something in the region of 48-hours battery life from a single charge. If that weren't enough, there's expandable storage that supports up to 2TB as well as 21-megapixel and 5-megapixel rear and front-facing cameras.
One of the bigger things about the Droid Turbo 2 is the new Moto ShatterShield display, which essentially tries its best to make the display invincible. Motorola have developed a system that combines a flexible AMOLED display with two touchscreen layers, an aluminum core and a special chemical compilation that makes this able to survive big hits to the display without cracking or shattering. If that weren't enough, Verizon will offer you a free screen replacement should anything go wrong, because this is guaranteed not to shatter.
The Droid Turbo 2 will be available starting October 29th and those interested can trade in their existing smartphones for up to $300, even if they've got a cracked screen. We'll have more info across the site, so stay tuned!
