Ultimate Ears Announce UE BOOM 2 With 25% Louder Sound

Bluetooth speakers may be common these days, but they're not all equal. There is a clear and distinctive order of quality and audio performance and right near the top are the BOOM speakers by Ultimate Ears. As it stands there are already the UE BOOM and UE MEGA BOOM speakers available for consumers, a cylindrical tower shaped speaker capable of putting out some massive sound. Today Ultimate Ears is announcing their next step in providing consumers with top quality Bluetooth speakers with the UE BOOM 2 speakers. These look exactly like prior BOOM releases but in fun new colors, and they come with some performance enhancements.

The speakers are slated for a release in the U.S. and in some European and Asian countries this month, and the good news for U.S. residents is that you can already buy these from Ultimate Ears on their website. The speaker will cost $199 and it comes in six different colors including Cherry Bomb, Yeti, Phantom, Green Machine, Tropical, and Brainfreeze. The UE BOOM 2 is capable of 360 degree sound just like the previous UE BOOM, and it's IPx7 rated so it's waterproof (Ultimate Ears says the BOOM 2 has a completely waterproof design) and built to withstand a little damage thanks to the ruggedized exterior as the UE BOOM 2 is drop proof up to a maximum of five feet. You can't drop it off of the roof of your house, but if it should slip out of your hands onto the ground you should be fine.

The new UE BOOM 2 are said to be 25 percent louder than the original BOOM speakers, and while that is a bold claim to make it wouldn't be shocking considering the original BOOM is two years old. The speakers also provide a longer range of being able to connect to your mobile device up to 100 feet before a disconnection. Also new with the UE BOOM 2 are tap controls that allow the user to skip songs without reaching for their smartphone or tablet. When it comes to battery life UE states the speaker should last users 15 hours before needing a recharge, which is plenty longer than many other Bluetooth speakers out there. The BOOM 2 has the same capability to pair up to any other BOOM series speaker for even more immersive audio, and when used in conjunction with the UE BOOM app the speaker gets wireless updates which can add more functionality and features over time as Ultimate Ears develops them.
