LG Launches Wine Smart Jazz Android Flip Phone In Korea

Over the years, the growing popularity of the modern touchscreen smartphones has all but killed off old-school flip phones for the most part. However, some companies like LG and Samsung seem to believe the retro-chic appeal of such devices can still entice enough buyers to at least create a commercially viable niche, even if they don't become mainstream again in the foreseeable future. While Samsung has been trying on and off to re-popularize the clamshell form factor by introducing devices like the Galaxy Folder and more recently, the rumored SM-G9198, its homegrown rival LG Electronics is not exactly far behind either.

According to information coming out of South Korea this Monday, the company has launched a brand new Android-based smart flip-phone called the LG Wine Smart Jazz in its home country. The smartphone is reportedly coming to two of the largest wireless carriers in the country, SKT and KT, after having been launched originally as the Wine Smart exclusively on LG U+ back in July. What apparently prompted LG to give the device a wider launch, is the encouraging sales of the phone thus far. LG will be hoping that the device proves just as popular on KT and SKT as it has on U+. The device is being offered for sale in Beige and brown colors, and is available at the two carriers with immediate effect at a price of 242,000 won ($205).

The Wine Smart Jazz is said to be mostly targeted at the elderly, who'll appreciate a familiar form factor more than cutting edge hardware. The phone comes with a T9 keypad, and features a 3.2-inch (320 x 480 pixels) touch screen display. The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 210 SoC, which has a 1.1 GHz quad-core CPU and an Adreno 304 GPU. 1 GB RAM and 4 GB of built-in storage comes with the package, along with a microSD card slot. The smartphone comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on board, and supports LTE connectivity, along with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. As for the cameras, the handset features a 3-megapixel rear-facing primary camera and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing selfie-cam. The device measures 117.7 mm in length, 58.7 mm in width and 16.6 mm in thickness, and weighs 143 grams. The phone comes with a removable battery with a capacity of 1,700 mAh.
