Best Buy Strikes Deal For In-House Verizon & AT&T Mini-Stores

Last week, an announcement from Macy's confirmed that they were planning on launching a number of Best Buys within their department stores. These will not be hitting all Macy's stores (at least not at first) and instead will be trialed in a number of locations and will essentially be viewed as a mini-store within a store. Well, in a strange turn of events, Best Buy is reported to have today confirmed that they will be extending the same sort of service to Verizon. In fact, in a separate announcement, the electronics giant is also reported to have confirmed they will be extending the same sort of service to AT&T as well.

According to a report from Re/Code, Best Buy have today announced that both Verizon and AT&T will be making use of their own mini-stores within Best Buy's stores. According to the details, Verizon will have 100 mini-stores operational before the end of September and this will eventually be extended to 250 stores by the end of the year. In what seems to be an identical deal, the report also details that AT&T will also have the exact same Best Buy presence with 250 of their mini-stores in operation as well. Although, no time-frame seems to have been giving for the AT&T mini-store roll out. In fact, the details go on to confirm that many of the carriers mini-stores will be deployed in the same locations.

It seems that the carrier stores will be manned by Best Buy employees who will be trained in the respective carriers products, services and offerings and as such neither carrier will have their own people on the ground. Lastly, the report notes that each of the mini-stores will work out to be between 90 and 180 square feet in size, which will likely be determined based on the overall size of the Best Buy location. Either way, it does seem that with both carriers operating from within the same majority of stores, this is likely to be a way for Best Buy to generate additional income without having to compromise on the products on offer. How this works out for either carrier remains to be seen, although chances are the effects of today's announcements will be seen in Best Buy stores soon enough.
