Moto X Play Units Imported Into India For $350

Motorola announced two different versions of its premium Moto X smartphone this year, with a flagship version powered by the Snapdragon 808 chipset and a comparatively cheaper device powered by the Snapdragon 615. While the former will be called the Moto X Style internationally, in the US, it will come as the Moto X Pure. As for the more mid-range device, it was originally believed to retain the Moto X Play moniker universally, although recent rumors have suggested that it might launch on Verizon as the Droid Maxx 2. Either way, the Moto X Play (32 GB version) has now been spotted on India's import-export data tracking website, Zauba. The listing suggests that as many as 80 units have been imported into the country from China 'For Testing Purpose & Not For Sale'. The import price of each unit is stated as Rs. 22, 228 ($350). Of course, when Motorola starts importing the devices for sale, the final retail pricing will include distributor and retailer markups along with customs duties over and above the import price.

Coming to the hardware specifications of the Moto X Play, the smartphone features a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display, protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 3. The display comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which gives it a pixel density of 403 dpi. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 SoC, which comes with an embedded octa-core CPU, with all eight Cortex-A53 cores. While four of the cores are clocked at 1.7 GHz each, four others are clocked at a frequency of 1.0 GHz. The chip also has an embedded Adreno 405 GPU. The device comes with 2 GB of RAM and either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage depending on the version chosen. The handset also comes with a microSD card slot, which allows capacity expansion by up to 128 GB. The Motorola Moto X Play will also come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed, and have a non-removable 3,630 mAh battery.

As for the phone's imaging and connectivity options, the rear-facing primary camera on the Moto X Play will have a 21-megapixel sensor along with autofocus and dual tone, dual-LED flash. Software features will include touch focus, face detection, panorama, auto-HDR and geo-tagging. The front-facing selfie-cam on the smartphone will come with a 5-mgapixel sensor. Connectivity options will include LTE, HSPA and GSM. The handset will also have GPS, A-GPS, Bluetooth v4.0 and A2DP, along with microUSB 2.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity.
