Sharp Aquos Crystal 2 Pre-Order Now Available From SoftBank

Sharp may not be as popular in the smartphone market as it is with their home entertainment equipment, but their Aquos Crystal lineup has some very interesting devices. The most recent member of this lineup is the Aquos Crystal 2, which was announced in May. It's more of a mid-range device in terms of specs, but its design really makes it stand out from the competition, plus it features a Direct Wave Receiver, that's why there's no earpiece for listening to phone calls on the front of the device. Another exclusive feature is the Grip Magic sensor, which lights up the screen to see notifications when the user holds the device. It continues the trend of having a bezel-less screen in every side except for the bottom, but this time, the diagonal of the display measures 5.2 inches, unfortunately, the resolution of 720p is kept the same.

Its dimensions are 136 x 71 x 11 mm, so it's still very compact for a device with that kind of screen, but it's rather thick for today's standards and it weighs 154 grams, which is pretty standard for its dimensions. The front-facing camera, located at the bottom bezel of the screen has a 2.1-megapixel sensor and the main camera is an 8-megapixel one. The processor is the same that can be found on its predecessor, the quad-core Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.2 GHz with 2 GB of RAM this time around. The internal storage has also increased to 16 GB and it still features a microSD card for expanded memory. The battery has a 2,030 mAh capacity, but according to the company, with its power-saving modes, it could last up to 3 days. It runs Android 5.0 out of the box and its hardware is water resistant, although it wouldn't stand submersion in that liquid.

The Aquos Crystal 2 was expected this month and it has become available today for preorder from SoftBank, one of Japan's largest carriers and it will be released on July 17. The phone will include a Harman Kardon ONYX Studio Bluetooth speaker, which has a very good and portable design. It will have four color options: turquoise, black, white and pink. There's no word on its availability in other markets yet.
