In a surprising turn of events, NVIDIA has decided to recall all NVIDIA Shield tablets sold between July 2014 and July 2015. The company says that there’s a problem with the battery in these tablets, that it tends to overheat and that it can cause a fire. NVIDIA also wanted to make sure that this problem does not affect any other NVIDIA products, just the Shield tablet. If you own the aforementioned tablet, you should visit this link for more information. If you do own this device you should stop using it as soon as you participate in the recall and back up your data.

The NVIDIA Shield is an 8-inch tablet which sports a 1920 x 1200 display. This thing also packs in 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 quad-core SoC clocked at 2.2GHz is fueling this device along with the ULP GeForce Kepler GPU which packs in 192 cores. The 5-megapixel camera is available both on the back, and on the front of this tablet. This is a Wi-Fi only tablet, and it originally shipped with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The device measures 221 x 126 x 9.2mm, while it weighs 390 grams. It is also worth mentioning that the Shield tablet sports front-facing stereo speakers as well.

So, it seems like NVIDIA is having serious issues with the 19.75Wh Li-lon battery which is available inside of this thing. The company has obviously managed to fix the problem, but it will include replacing your current device with a newer model.
