Samsung has launched two mid-range Galaxy-branded tablets in India - the Galaxy Tab A and the Galaxy Tab E. While the Tab A will be available with immediate effect, buyers will have to wait till the end of this month to get their hands on the Tab E. Both the tablets come with voice-calling features, meaning they can actually be used as gigantic smartphones. Samsung has also announced bundled data offerings with both the tablets, with 2 GB of LTE data being offered with the Tab A for two months on Airtel, and 2 GB of 3G data being offered with the Tab E for three months each on Vodafone postpaid. Prepaid customers will get an additional Gig of data each month for a further two months on Vodafone.
The Tab A has already been launched in markets like Canada and Malaysia, and comes with LTE connectivity (with support for both LTE-FDD Band 3 and LTE-TDD Band 40) as one of its highlight features. The tablet has an 8-inch form-factor and comes with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The device has a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410 SoC, which comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU. There's 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, which is further expandable with a microSD card. There's a 5-megapixel camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel camera on the front of the device. The tablet comes with support for Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out the box, with Samsung's TouchWiz interface laid on top. The tablet comes with a 4,200 mAh battery, and carries a price-tag of Rs. 20,500 ($320). The device is being offered in Smoky Titanium and White colors, and will be available online as well as at brick-and-mortar stores across the country.
As for the Galaxy Tab E, it's a bit larger than the Tab A at 9.6 inches, and features a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Unlike the Tab A however, this one only comes with 3G connectivity. The device is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core CPU of unspecified make, and comes with 1.5GB RAM, 8GB storage, and the same set of cameras as the Galaxy Tab A. As for connectivity options apart from the aforementioned 3G HSPA, there's support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. The device comes with a 5,000 mAh battery, and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. The phone will be offered in Metallic Black and Pearl White, and will be available exclusively on Flipkart for Rs. 16,900 ($265). While the Tab A is pictured above, the Tab E is the one right below.
