We've seen leaks, rumors and more of the Galaxy S6 Active for quite a while now. Samsung had released an Active variant of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 in the past two years, so we weren't too surprised to hear about a Galaxy S6 Active. This time around, it's an AT&T exclusive once again. That shouldn't be a huge surprise though, given the past two were AT&T exclusives as well. The Active variant is usually a more rugged, and ugly, version of the flagship device.
This time around, Samsung kept pretty much all the same specs as the Galaxy S6. But one thing is different, the battery. The Galaxy S6 has a 2550mAh battery inside, while the Galaxy S6 Active sports a 3500mAh battery inside. So hopefully those battery issues with the Galaxy S6 won't exist on the Galaxy S6 Active. Otherwise we have a 5.1-inch 2560x1440 resolution Super AMOLED display, Exynos 7420 octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM, and a 16MP camera on the back with a 5MP front-facing camera. The Galaxy S6 Active is also IP68 certified, and comes in different camouflage colors. Additionally, it should withstand a drop or two, or more, thanks to it's protective casing. But that's the whole reason for the Galaxy S6 Active, it's more rugged than the glass backed Galaxy S6.
AT&T has yet to post the press release on their site, but they have posted pictures on their site, as well as their highlights video showcasing the new device. So a press release should be imminent. As soon as it's available, we'll add the link to the sources down below. As far as colors go, it appears we have a white, gray and blue camouflage available. Seeing as the press release isn't live yet, we also don't have a release date. But I'd venture to guess it'll be available either this Friday or next. It's definitely a nice upgrade from the Galaxy S5 Active, and that larger battery will make some Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users a bit jealous.
Update: Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be available this Friday, June 12th and will cost $199 on contract.
