Multiple Smartphone Prototypes Imported Into India By Sony

Sony is all set to launch the company's new high-end smartphone, the Xperia Z3+ in India later this week, having already launched the device in other international markets. Now however, reports out of India seem to indicate four new prototype handsets have been recently imported into the country for "testing and debugging" purposes. A listing on, India's international trade data website, shows four new prototype handsets from Sony have been imported into the country through Bangalore airport on June 19th. Each of the new handsets have the exact same import value of Rs. 39,239 ($617), leading one to believe the handsets could very well be variants of the same phone, with single and dual SIM models and multiple storage options. Two of the phones bear the codename Seahawk Rex PQ and Seahawk Gina AP, while two others are dubbed the Eagle Rex AP and Eagle Rilads AP.

As mentioned earlier, the Japanese electronics giant is expected to launch the Xperia Z3+ in India on the 26th of this month. The company has scheduled a press event to be held on that day in the capital city of New Delhi, and sent out invitations for the same, last week. It isn't immediately clear however if the company also plans to launch the Xperia Z4 Tablet on the same day. The company meanwhile, has already launched the Xperia M4 Aqua in the country late last month for a price of Rs. 24,990 ($400).

As for Sony's latest flagship device, the Xperia Z3+ features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, which works out to a pixel density of 424 ppi. The device is powered by the 64-bit Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 SoC, which comes with an integrated octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.0 GHz, and the Adreno 430 GPU. The device will ship with 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of internal storage, which can be further extended via the use of a microSD card of up to 128 GB in capacity. The rear camera on the device has a 20.7 megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, while a 5 megapixel selfie-cam is present in the front. The device has a 2,930 mAh battery, and Android 5.0 Lollipop is pre-installed. The phone also comes with an IP68 certification, which renders the smartphone dust and waterproof.
