The DROID lineup of smartphones hasn't really ever been the best at getting timely Android updates. This remains true with the latest version of Android, Android 5.1 Lollipop. The latest DROID smartphone, the Motorola DROID Turbo has been poised to receive Android 5.1 for awhile now, but there is still no actual date on when the update will begin rolling out to the device. Now though, Motorola DROID Turbo users can get a taste of what Android 5.1 Lollipop will be like on their device, but it's not what you think.
On Verizon's website, there is a section that you can visit called "Get to know your device" that features the Motorola DROID Turbo. Here users can essentially use a DROID Turbo from within their browser. Users can select from a broad range of actions such as sending an email and then the simulator will walk users through how to execute it step-by-step on a virtual DROID Turbo. So, how does this tie into getting a taste of Android 5.1 Lollipop on the device? Well, on June 11, Verizon updated the simulator so that the virtual DROID Turbo is running Android 5.1.
Now if you head over to Verizon's website and navigate to the "Get to know your device" section with the DROID Turbo, you will be able to try Android 5.1 on a virtual device. This may not appear as that big of a deal, but to those of you who can't wait to see what software changes Android 5.1 will bring to the DROID Turbo, it's a big deal. This updated tool will allow you to get a pretty decent glimpse into what using the DROID Turbo on Android 5.1 will be like upon release.
Like mentioned above, there is no official release date set for Android 5.1 on the DROID Turbo, but it will be coming sooner than later. Previously, Verizon had said that the update would begin its rollout mid-June, but something happened during testing to delay that date. It would be surprising to not see the rollout at least begin sometime in the beginning of July.
