Vivo is a China-based smartphone manufacturer which doesn’t exactly release a whole lot smartphone per year, and yet we’ve seen three of their upcoming devices mentioned a whole lot in the last couple of weeks. The Vivo X5Pro, X5 Max S and Xshot3 have been mentioned quite frequently lately. The X5Pro was the most frequently mentioned device, a number of leaks and rumors surfaced, and the company has even teased the device a number of times as well. It turns out that most of those rumors and leaks were spot on, Vivo has finally released the X5Pro, let’s see what it has to offer.
First and foremost, it is worth mentioning that the X5Pro features an Iris (retina) Scanner which is located on the front side of the phone. This thing is supposed to give you an extra layer of security, though it will be interesting to see if it will work properly and how useful will it be in the end. This handset features a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Super AMOLED display (with 2.5D curved glass on top) along with 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of internal storage. The X5Pro is powered by MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit octa-core processor and it will ship with a 2,300mAh battery on the inside, not the 4,150mAh unit that was mentioned several times, it seems like that battery is reserved for X5 Max S after all. The phone features a 13-megapixel camera on the back, what’s interesting about this camera is that it offers PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) technology, which should bring forth great focus speeds. The front-facing 8-megapixel camera is actually capable of taking images up to 32-megapixels by stitching together a bunch of images.
This is a dual-SIM handset which offers 4G LTE connectivity. Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed here with Vivo’s FunTouch 2.1 OS on top of Google’s operating system. As far as sound goes, Vivo X5Pro will ship with a built-in CS4398 DAC + MAX97220 Hi-Fi headphone amplifier and chip combination. The phone will be available in Black and White color options, and it measures 147.9 x 73.45 x 6.44mm. This handset is priced at 2,598 Yuan ($419) for 16GB variant, and 2,698 Yuan ($435) for a 32GB model in China, and it seems like it will go on sale on May 25th.
