Gionee is rather well-known China-based smartphone manufacturer. People tend to remember Gionee because of their Elife S5.1 handset which was the thinnest device around when it launched last year. The company has launched a number of devices after the Elife S5.1, and that handset is nowhere near the thinnest device in the world at the moment. The company has announced the mid-range Elife S7 handset during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona back in March, and it seems like another Gionee-branded handset is on the way, the Elife E8.
The company has recently revealed that intends to announce the Elife E8 in July, which is two months away. We've also seen this handset's specification leak on GFXBench last month, and now it got certified by TENAA (China's equivalent to FCC). This listing actually differs from the one we've seen on GFXBench, which could mean that Gionee intends to launch two versions of this device. Anyhow, the device that got certified by TENAA is actually a 6-inch phablet which sport a QuadHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED display on the front. According to TENAA, the Elife E8 will also feature 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB). This phablet is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz, though the listing doesn't mention who is the manufacturer of that chip. Based on the company's earlier handsets, this chip is quite probably manufactured by MediaTek. The phone will, of course, feature two cameras. The front-facing shooter seems to be 8-megapixel in resolution, and all we know about the main camera is that it will be 8+MP CMOS sensor. The 3,520mAh battery comes built-in here and the certified device comes with support for TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE and LTE FDD 4G networks.
The Gionee Elife E8 measures 164 x 82.3 x 9.6mm, while it weighs 207 grams. The phone will quite probably be available in Gray color option only, though we still can't confirm that. Android 5.0 Lollipop will come pre-installed here with Gionee's Amigo OS on top of Google's operating system. Despite the fact it just got certified, this handset will quite probably launch in July as Gionee said a while back. It is, of course, possible that they'll launch it sooner, but that's highly unlikely.
