ASUS Zenfone 5 Lollipop Update Delayed Another 3-4 Months

"Dear Zenfone 5 Owners, Remember how we were to release the Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5, Zenfone 6 and Padfone S Android update with a delay after the expected mid-May? Well, we're sorry for the inconvenience, but your device, i.e. the Zenfone 5, will receive its Lollipop 3 or 4 month later than what we already said." This is NOT an official announcement but it is probably what Asus would say to the Zenfone 5 owners now. But this one was the actual official announcement on its official ZenTalk forum a couple of days ago:

"Asus was scheduled to provide ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, ZenFone 6, and PadFone S with Android L upgrade in the mid of May. However, Asus team has found some issues during verification. We decided to delay the Android L upgrade schedule in order to provide better user experience. We are currently working on the related issues and will release the upgrade as soon as possible."

Now Asus India has informed people via its Facebook page that Zenfone 5 will get Android 5.0 update 3-4 months later than expected. It's not the first time that Zenfone owners have to move the pin from their expected date to a further place on the calendar. But there is probably a reason why Asus did not have an official announcement with the exact wording above. Maybe, and it's an educated guess not a blind one, it is just a local delay and only India is to be influenced. And maybe that is why the announcement was made on Asus India's Facebook page. It seems pretty reasonable for it to be a local delay since Indian carriers have to sign off on the update and that takes some time. Still, some customers will be unhappy.

Now if Lollipop for Zenfone 5 is to be delayed further in India, it is likely that the other members of the Zenfone family, Zenfone 4 and Zenfone 6, experience a longer delay too. They are still in India and the carriers still have to "sign off on the update".

Also, the Padfone S update may be affected as well since it was scheduled to get the update alongside the Zenfones. But this is just a guess. Nothing was said regarding this product so no worries. It may get the update sooner than all the Zenfones (it's still a guess!)

I got my first android device some years ago and though I never lost interest in feature phones and still have one (The "battery low" warning appears on the screen once a week only! This means I'm never worried about missing important calls because my phone's dead. And yes, it's Nokia) I can't think of life without my android phone.
