Last year was an interesting year for media streaming devices. The Chromecast was, of course, one of the most popular options available on the market. With good reason too. the price of the device compared to what it can do makes the Chromecast an excellent and affordable option for those looking for a media streaming device. That said, last year was also the year that Amazon decided to fully enter the market. Early on in the year, they released their Fire TV unit which seemed to do well enough. However, in the second half of the year, the company then decided to take the Chromecast head on, with the release of their Fire TV stick.
The Fire TV stick was announced back in October and is exactly what it sounds like, a Fire TV functional device but wrapped within a Chromecast-like stick. When the device did launch, it seemed to do extremely well and sold out very quickly, marking its position within the market. Similar to the Chromecast, this was largely thought to be due to the competitive pricing of the device. However, the device took some time in leaving the U.S. and only became available to UK residents in March of this year. Not to mention, in the UK, the Fire TV stick was priced at £35 which effectively, defines the device at a higher price than what it is priced in the U.S.
Well, if you had been thinking about picking up a Fire TV stick in the UK but did not like the £35 price tag, then it seems now might be a good time to buy. Amazon UK is currently showing the Fire TV stick has been reduced to £25. Which does in fact, bring the device in line (straight currency conversion terms) with the U.S. price. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be a permanent price change but instead a limited time sale price and therefore, if you are interested then it will probably be wise to buy sooner rather than later. It is also worth noting that other UK retailers seem to be dropping their prices in line with Amazon too.
