Galaxy S6 Gear VR Innovator Edition Pre-Orders Due To Start In Japan At The End Of April

It appears as if Samsung is ready to take the virtual reality experience to Japan as they're reportedly going to be opening up pre-orders soon for the Gear VR Innovator Edition. Although most people may already be familiar with the Gear VR Innovator Edition, lets recap for those who have either never heard of this device or don't know the difference between the Innovator Edition and the yet unreleased regular model which should be geared more towards a final product offering. The Gear VR is currently available for anyone here in the states who has a couple hundred bucks to throw at the device, and it can be picked up at a number of different retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung's own website.

It is only currently compatible with the Galaxy Note 4, which makes the use of it quite limiting, although Samsung has stated that it will open up compatibility to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge sometime after those two devices launch with a unit designed specifically for them. It is also intended more for development use, as Samsung wants to entice developers to build for the platform, but regular consumers do have access to it. Although it isn't compatible with the Galaxy S6 just yet, Samsung has just announced on their Japan site that they will be opening up pre-orders of the Gear VR Innovator Edition for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge starting near the end of this month, more precisely, on April 23rd.

As you can tell from the images, the virtual reality headset looks nearly the same as the Innovator Edition that is available to consumers now for the Galaxy Note 4, short of the mantle and clip system in the front which fastens in the device to face the display and view of the wearer. The currently available headset for the Galaxy Note 4 looks slightly different, with an available cover that goes over the device when connected into the Gear VR to keep it protected, although the cover is easy to pull off so it would probably come straight off should the headset be accidentally dropped. When Samsung plans to release the Innovator Edition for the Galaxy S6 in the U.S. and other regions is unknown, although it's possible that it could be around the same time.
