The update to Lollipop for Sony's Xperia Z3 devices is getting closer, although we still don't have any specific dates for any of the regions that have mentioned the update in the past week. So far, the Xperia Z3 has been slated for launches in Indonesia and France next week, and the update has reportedly already landed for some users in India. There's still no word on US or UK releases for the software, but rumors have speculated that those two being fairly larger markets could see the update to Lollipop as soon as next week as well. We're now learning some details about the Lollipop update headed out to the Xperia Z3 for the Australian market said to be coming up on April 13th.
That puts a rather large gap in between the times that Australian device owners should be getting the update and the other regions where it's slated to hit in a week's time. What this could mean is that Sony could be looking at a month's long roll out process of the latest Android software version starting sometime next week and continuing on through mid-April. Whether or not this means other regions like the U.S, will see the update as late as April is unknown but it's something to keep in mind. The information is listed up on Australian carrier Telstra's software update support page, although it is possible that April 13th could also be a target date.
If Telstra is indeed not pushing out the update until next month, and users in France are going to get the update on the Xperia Z3 next week according to Sony XperiaFR, the question is, why is the update taking that much longer for Australian device users? Will this be the same update time frame expected for users in the U.S. and other regions that haven't mentioned dates yet? Other details to consider are that T-Mobile's own software update support page now lists the Sony Xperia Z3 along with the other devices scheduled to get Lollipop, and it's labeled as being in manufacturer development so the update is likely very close at this point.
