We're seeing more and more smartwatches out in the market. Many smartphone manufacturers have already released smartwatches as well, including Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, LG… and quite a few other companies. The majority of these smartwatches are running Android Wear, Google's smartwatch operating system which is becoming more and more popular by the day. Smartwatch sales aren't exactly booming at the moment, but these OEMs are hoping that will change soon. Many analysts have been saying that 2015 will be a great year for wearables, so we might see a lot of wearable devices (including smartwatches) being launched by the end of this year.
Xiaomi is one of the companies that still haven't released a smartwatch, but are rumored to do so in the near future. According to the latest rumors, Xiaomi is working on a round smartwatch which will ship with NFC capability. The rumor says that Xiaomi intends to take advantage of NFC in order to get you to use their smartwatch to pay for stuff, like some other manufacturers have done already. This rumor also says that Xiaomi's smartwatch won't be running Android Wear, which comes as a bit of a surprise. All of Xiaomi's smartphones are running Android, even though the company's MIUI OS is on top of Google's operating system. Anyhow, the Xiaomi smartwatch will also ship with a heart rate monitor it seems, which was to be expected.
Keep in mind that this is just a rumors and in no way, shape or form a confirmed information. It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will launch a smartwatch at all this year, and whether will it run Android Wear or not. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer might opt for a proprietary system, as this rumor says. We can only sit and wait for more information to surface, or for Xiaomi to release some official info regarding this. That being said, let us know what you think here. Would you be interested in the company's smartwatch if Xiaomi actually launches one this year? Would it bother you if Android Wear wasn't a part of the picture?
