Xiaomi is the number one smartphone manufacturer in China. This smartphone manufacturer not only managed to become the number 1, but is also the third biggest OEM worldwide. They managed to achieve this in less than 5 years, considering the company was founded back in 2010. Speaking of that, Xiaomi is celebrating its birthday on March 31st, and you can expect the company to announce new hardware at said date. If you'd like to get more information regarding that, click here. That being said, competition in China is fierce. There are many, many solid smartphone manufacturers there, and we keep on seeing new or somewhat unknown companies trying to leave their mark.

We've talked about such a company quite recently. Gree is aiming to compete with Xiaomi in the mid-range department. Most of you have probably never heard of this Chinese company, probably because smartphone manufacturing isn't exactly up their alley. It seems like Gree Energy wants to try its luck in the smartphone market, and their president, Dong Mingzhu, said that the company will release a smartphone soon. That handset was even shown off during Gree Energy's conference, and you can check it out here. You might ask yourself, why should Xiaomi feel threatened here? Well, Dong Mingzhu is considered one of the most successful entrepreneurs in China, and it will be interesting if Gree can come up with something worth admiring.

A new report came our way, sharing some additional details about Gree's upcoming handset. The report says that this device will be powered by Qualcomm's chip, though it doesn't say which one. 13-megapixel camera will reportedly be located on the back of this handset, and a 5-megapixel snapper will be available up front. Gree has big plans for this smartphone, the company intends to sell a lot of models by the end of 2015, they might even be a bit too optimistic. Either way, this sounds kind of exciting, competition is always good. Let's wait and see what Gree has up their sleeve, judging by the recent rumors, this handset is expected to land in the coming weeks.
