Instagram Announces new app Called 'Layout', A Photo Collage App Headed to Android

It's no doubt that collages are popular on Instagram, but so are selfies. With Instagram being more popular among teenagers than adults, you see a ton of photo collages on the social network. There are already a ton of apps on the Play Store that you can use to make some amazing collages and then save them to your phone and upload to Instagram or any other social network. Today, Instagram announced a brand new app. It's called Layout. It's essentially an app that you can make photo collages out of. It'll bring along with it a very familiar UI, as well as a ton of features.

"When you open Layout, we automatically show you previews of custom layouts as you choose photos from your camera roll. To make it easier to find the photos you want, we've also added a Faces option that shows you all the photos in your camera roll that feature people."

With Layout, you can - naturally - choose the layout for your photo collage, as well as choose what pictures you want to have added into the collage. The interface of the app looks very familiar for those that have used Instagram. Instagram has also added some cool artistic effects and features that can be applied to your pictures straight from the app. Layout also allows you to flip and rotate these pictures to make the best photo collage possible.

The new app is available in the Apple App Store today and is coming soon for Android. Obviously, Facebook and Instagram still see iOS as the primary platform and Android as a secondary mobile platform. There's no specifics as to when we'll be getting the app in the Play Store, just that it's coming soon.

In the new app, Layout, Instagram is also highlighting a new feature that they are calling "photo booth". What this does is counts down and snaps multiple photos that are automatically stitched together into a collage. A pretty neat feature, and one that would require a great front-facing camera like the one Samsung put into the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
