Alcatel OneTouch Announce The Hero 2+, Cyanogen OS Running 6-Inch Unlocked Phablet

Cyanogen OS has been quickly establishing itself over the last year as a serious option for an out-of-the-box operating system for manufacturers and customers alike. Since the launch of the popular OnePlus One smartphone, Cyanogen OS has been the default operating system on the device. Not to mention, that towards the close of last year, Cyanogen OS entered the Indian smartphone market, coming pre-installed on the Yureka smartphone by Yu. Following on from this, Alcatel OneTouch has today announced the launch of a new phablet device dubbed the Alcatel OneTouch HERO 2+. The HERO 2+ is destined for the North American market and will come running Cyanogen OS as the default operating system. The HERO 2+ is a follow-up device to the previous incarnation, HERO 2 phablet. However, unlike the predecessor, this one will come running Cyanogen OS out of the box. The HERO 2+ features a 6-inch Full HD edge-to-edge display, LTE octa-core processor and a built-in stylus. As a result, this is the first phablet equipped with an octa-core processor and also running Cyanogen OS natively.

In terms of the full specs, the HERO 2+ will come with a 6-inch display with a 1920×1080 resolution. Inside the HERO 2+ will come equipped with 2GB RAM and powered by a MediaTek (MT 6592) octa-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor (clocking at 2 GHz). In terms of memory, the HERO 2+ will come as standard with 16GB internal storage. The phablet will also come with a microSD card slot to provide additional storage up to 32GB. Camera-wise, the HERO 2+ will come loaded with a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, as well as a 5 megapixel front-facing (selfie) option. Not to mention, full HD 1080p video recording will be possible from the device. The HERO 2+ will come running on Cyanogen OS (11) which is based on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat). In terms of the actual measurements of the unit, the device will come in at 160.5mm x 81.6mm x 7.9mm

For those interesting in picking up a Cyanogen OS running unlocked phablet from Alcatel OneTouch, the announcement advises that the HERO 2+ will be available at the beginning of Q2 and available directly from the Alcatel OneTouch Amazon store. The device will come unlocked and the price will be set at $299.
