Acer’s Chromebook 15 was announced earlier this year to much fanfare, after all fans of Google’s Chrome OS have been looking forward to a much larger Chromebook for some time and while HP’s Chromebook 14 offers a solid option for those looking for something bigger, the Acer Chromebook 15 comes with a 1080p display at 15-inches, making it a more traditional laptop. We’ve been waiting for the new Chromebook from Acer to make its way to shelves for quite some time now and while we still don’t have an official release date, we do now at least know how much both versions of the largest Chromebook available will cost.
If you’re looking at the basic, 1366 x 768 model with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage then you’ll pay roughly $250, to get your hands on that 1920 x 1080 display with 4GB of RAM, you’re looking at $350. That’s a pretty great deal for a device like this, and you also get 32GB of storage as well. Both Chromebooks are powered by a dual-core Intel Celeron that’s surprisingly snappy when running Chrome OS. When you consider that very few Windows laptops anywhere close to this sort of price range still feature lackluster 1366 x 768 panels, this is a good buy. If that 11.6-inch Chromebook isn’t cutting it any more, this will certainly give you the extra space you want. Both versions feature USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and HDMI ports as well as an SD card slot and a headphone jack. Giving you more ports than the fancy new MacBook.
While this doesn’t feature the fancy new USB Type-C ports found in the new Chromebook Pixel, you’ll be able to use whatever portable hard drive you use, as well as plug in all sorts of other peripherals like external webcams and card readers. Still, Chrome OS isn’t for everyone and unless you really do spent the vast majority of your time on the web, then this might not be for you. Chromebooks have come a long way since they first launched and they continue to give Microsoft headaches as casual users look to a more streamlined way of accessing the web and going about their everyday lives. Whether or not they’re for you is something you need to consider, but the Acer Chromebook 15 is another excellent choice, especially the 1080p version with 4GB of RAM.
