Every year come Valentine’s Day the big names in smartphones try their best to bring in new custom, with the hopes that men everywhere will be buying their ladies fancy-looking smartphones. Thanks to the trend of rose gold and champagne gold smartphones these days, this push to get people shopping on Valentine’s Day doesn’t seem quite as ridiculous as it used to do. Traditionally, Apple and Samsung have been the big names for people shopping for a smartphone Valentine’s gift, but Oppo is hoping their slender R5 will be a winner this year in a new white gold edition that’s launching on February 14th.
Oppo’s R5 has leaked out in a gold trim and is set to be released just in time for Valentine’s Day. It looks like Oppo is trying to push the R5’s thinness with this new edition of the device, as not much is changed aside from the gold aluminium frame around the edge of the device, and a subtle gilding around the camera on the back. Having said that, the R5 is just 4.85mm at its thinnest, so we can’t really blame Oppo for trying to push the device’s slender frame more than just a gold paintjob. Plus, this does look to be one of the more subtle gold devices that has launched in recent years. For those thinking of picking up this version of the R5, it doesn’t appear to be on pre-order just yet, but hopefully that’ll change soon.
The original R5 is packed with a Snapdragon 615 and 2GB of RAM with a 5.2-inch Full HD display and 16GB of storage. As it’s fairly thin, there isn’t much of a battery coming in at just 2,000 mAh so there’s that to keep in mind, and it’s also not that cheap considering its mid-range specifications. You can read more about the device’s launch here, let us know in the comments if you’ll be buying a smartphone for someone special this Valentine’s Day or is that just a little too much?
