Compared to the last few weeks, this week has been rather slower in the custom world. There has not been any further news from the OnePlus camp on their Oxygen OS and there has not been the wealth of new tweaks, custom features and services hitting the news. That said, there is always something out there in the custom and ROM world so take a minute to check out these latest offerings.
Qualcomm Color Control Kernel Tweak
Kicking us off today is a tweak for kernel lovers. Advanced color controls (sometimes known as 'Gamma control') effectively allows the user to control the color of their display in a very finite manner. This is typically achieved by using an app which allows the various tweaking of a Qualcomm processor. As the OP of this week's patch notes, this used to be device specific, although the current patch allows for the feature to be used on a whole bunch of chipsets. Check out the video above to see exactly what is on offer and whether this might be something you are interested in. Not to mention, click the link below to head over to the OP thread and find out more.
Moto E CM12 UNOFFICIAL
CyanogenMod is one of the most popular ROMs currently available. The CM user base boasts a whole load of users, device compatibility and android OS options. That said, if you are running a Moto E and looking to get in on some CyanogenMod Lollipop (CM12) action then it looks like a new unofficial CM12 build went live this week. There is no screenshots to show you at present and generally speaking the comments are positive. So if you would like to give this a try on your Moto E (codename 'CONDOR') then click the link below.
ColorOS Camera Port
Moving on, if you are running a OnePlus One and have heard good things about the ColorOS Camera (like 50MP shots) then you will want to know that the Camera APK has now been ported to OPO's running CM11. Unfortunately, this does not seem to working with CM12 at present but if you are running CM11 and fancy upgrading your camera app, then now you can. We covered this article already this week so click here for a more detailed description or to head straight over to the APK thread click the link below.
If you are looking to change up your ROM this week then you might want to take a quick look at SlimROM. They are one of those staples of the custom community and this week announced the launch if their latest SlimLP Alpha 1.0 Weekly. As the announcement states, not all devices will be eligible for the weekly just yet, but the list is growing. Click the link below to find out more and see if your device weekly is there.
Android Lollipop Battery Saver Warning Color Fix
Those out there who are currently running Android 5.0+ (Lollipop) then you may have noticed an emergency power mode that your device has. The benefits of this mode is that it automatically shuts off all of your power consuming features and makes sure your device uses the minimal amount of power possible. That said, the downside is that you are left with a strange and bright orange UI. Well, the clever folks over at Xposed have now figured out a MOD which will cleanse your device of the orange color when it enters power saving mode. You can read more about the MOD by clicking here. Alternatively, click the link below to head straight to the Xposed module.
If you are running a Samsung galaxy Note 4 and tired of the usual Samsung interface and maybe thinking about trying a new ROM, then you might want to take a look at SimplROM. This is a very new ROM from a new developer and as such is still in the early stages. The developer even notes that you should not expect bleeding edge content. However, they do also note that this ROM places an emphasis on speed and being as light as possible. Either way, if you have the Note 4 and fancy trying SimplROM then click the link below.
Finishing up the list today is not a feature or service you can currently use, but instead is just a heads up of one to maybe look out for in the future. Mobiliya this week announced the introduction of their new Mobiliya KratOS ROM. This is a ROM which is designed to offer an increased level of protection for you and your data. As such it comes preloaded with a VPN and is a read-only access ROM. At the moment, there is no indication that this ROM will hit the custom market anytime soon and instead seems destined to come pre-loaded on certain regional OEM devices. However, in the custom world you never know what is around the corner or what will be ported next. If you are interested in knowing more than click the link below to head over to the Mobiliya website.
