Xiaomi had an exciting day today, not only did the company announce their newest handset, the Redmi 2, but they announced their financial results for last year and some plans for this year. That’s not all though, you might recall that Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, announced recently that the company will announce their newest flagship this month, well, Lei Jun just confirmed when will that happen. Mark January 15 on your calendars because Xiaomi intends to announce their newest flagship handset then, we still don’t know whether they’ll call it the Mi4S or the Mi5, the company’s CEO didn’t confirm either one.
We’ve seen many leaks concerning both of these handset thus far, some of them are probable, while other are totally out there. If Xiaomi opts to release the Mi4S, then we’ll see the Mi5 launched in June or July quite probably, about one year after they launched the Mi4. The company could, however, decide to launch the Mi5 on January 15, which actually makes more sense to me, but we’ll see. The alleged Mi4S leaked in a poster quite recently, showing its beautiful shell and extremely thin bezels. This poster could be fake though, the device looks too good to be true and the writing below the render itself is not that believable, a ton of compliments without any specifics. According to previous leaks, the Mi5 is expected to sport a QuadHD 5.5 or 5.7-inch display, 3GB of RAM, a 20.7-megapixel camera and Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor will reportedly power this device on. If these specs are true, the device won’t launch this month for sure because the Snapdragon 810 chip isn’t available for mass production just yet.
Let me also mention that the latest report from China, a leaked document, suggests that Xiaomi will launch at least 7 new devices in 2015 (including the already launched Redmi 2). As I said, this will be an exciting year for this Chinese smartphone OEM. That being said, what do you think Xiaomi will launch on January 15? Do you think they’ll launch the Mi4S or will they go straight to the Mi5? Let us know what you think, we’d love to hear from you, as usual.
